As dusk fell on Easter Saturday evening in Alet-Les-Bains, people gathered in a darkened Church of St.Andre to hold vigil as Canon Tony Jewiss blessed and then lit the Paschal Candle from a New Fire - symbolising Jesus' resurrection. The lit candle was then processed into the church, stopping to acclaim "The Light Of Christ" and then to light the congregation's candles from it.
We sat and listened to the singing of the Exsultet - a long sung prayer which has its roots in early Christianity - and then sounded a fanfare and rang bells to signify the Resurrection. After renewing our Baptismal vows, we then celebrated the 1st Communion of Easter. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and especially to Susan Harrison who took these - and many more - photographs for us.
